Which is the best type of graph to show ranking?
-
If we rank claims from most to least frequent, which service category would be at the top of the list (most frequent)?
-
Which would be at the bottom?
-
Is this true for both Eastern and Northern Zones, or do the rankings differ?

A horizontal bar graph would be the best type to illustrate ranking. For both zones, curative care would rank at the top. In the Eastern Zone, inpatient medical and inpatient obstetrics tie at the bottom (2 each), while in the Northern Zone, speech therapy ranks at the bottom (1).

I agree that a horizontal bar graph would best illustrate ranking. This format allows the viewer to see the largest bar (with the most observations) at the top, and and the smallest bar (with the fewest observations) at the bottom. In the Eastern Zone, Curative Care Visits would be the largest bar (n=987), whereas Inpatient Medical (n=2) and Inpatient Obstetrics (n=2) would be at the bottom. In the Northern Zone, Curative Care Visits would be the top bar (n=586) and Speech Therapy would be the bottom bar (n=1). Though the top bar is the same across both zones, the rankings overall certainly differ. Looking more granularly, the rankings for the Eastern Zone from largest to smallest would be: Curative Care Visit, Physical Therapy, Well Visit, Emergency Room, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Inpatient Nursery/NICU, and Inpatient Medical and Inpatient Obstetrics. In the Northern Zone, the rankings from largest to smallest would be: Curative Care Visit, Physical Therapy, Well Visit, Emergency Room, Inpatient Medical, Inpatient Nursery/NICU and Inpatient Obstetrics, Inpatient Surgery and Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy.

A horizontal bar graph would best display rankings as it allow you to quickly see which category has the most and how it compares to others. For both the Eastern and Northern zones, curative care visits would be ranked the highest (most frequent). For the Eastern zone, Inpatient medical and obstetrics would be tied for least frequent and in the Northern zone, speech therapy would be ranked least frequent.

I agree that a horizontal bar chart would be a good way to display a ranked variable. I think the reader would easily understand the top to bottom ranking system and it would mimic score charts and other ranked tables and charts that we see. However, sorting the bars according to the values would be key to this graph. If the service categories appeared in alphabetical or some other order, then it wouldn’t be as clear to the reader.
Both zones would have the same service category as their most frequent claim type, curative care visits. The Northern zone has more (1110) than the Eastern zone (987), but they are the most frequent claims for both areas. The least frequent service category in the Northern zone is speech therapy (1), while in the Eastern zone it is both inpatient obstetrics (2) and inpatient medical (2).

According to Stephen Few, bar charts are often the best option to display ranking. The most frequent service category of claims by far are curative care visits, almost double the number of claims compared to the next most frequent category. And this is true across both Eastern and Northern zones.
The Northern and Eastern zone begin to differ with the 5th ranked service category, and the least frequent is different depending on zone as well. In the Eastern zone, both inpatient obstetrics and inpatient medical claims were the least frequent, with each service category only having 2 claims. In the Northern zone, speech therapy was the least frequent with only 1 claim.

• The bar graph provides the information in a comparative method that allows the reader to view and interpreter the items in a way similar to reading. The information goes from left to right, with the higher/greater information on the right.
• For both groups, Curative Care was used most frequently.
• For Eastern, Inpatient Medical and Obstetrics were used the least, and Northern Speech Therapy was not used at all. -

A bar chart -horizontal would be the best type to illustrate ranking for comparison.
Curative care for both zones are the most frequent claim type. The are not the same – the least frequent service category in the Northern zone is speech therapy and in the Eastern zone it is both inpatient obstetrics and inpatient medical.

A bar chart would make the most sense.
Both groups have curative care as the most frequently used service. In the North, Speech Therapy is the the least frequent; in the East, it is Inpatient Obstetrics & Inpatient Medical.

Is this true for both Eastern and Northern Zones, or do the rankings differ?I would say a bar chart would be the best type of graph to show ranking. If we rank claims from most to least frequent the category at the top of the list would be curative care visit and well visit at the bottom. Speech therapy ranks at the bottom in the Northern Zones

I would use a bar graph to show ranking. Curative care is the most frequent category for both Northern and Eastern. Speech therapy is the least frequent ranking in the Northern Zone. Inpatient obstetrics and inpatient medical are the least frequent in the Eastern zone.

To show a ranking the best graph would be a bar graph. It is an easy visual of which has more or less.
If we rank claims from most to least frequent, which service category would be at the top of the list (most frequent)?
Which would be at the bottom? The most frequent claim is Curative visits with 1,110 and the least frequent is speech therapy for the northern claims.
In the Eastern Zone claims curative visits are the most frequent and the least frequent are tied with inpatient medical and inpatient obstetrics. The rankings only differ in the least frequent category. -

For Northern, Curative Care Visits is still the most frequent (589) but Inpatient Medical and Obstetrics (2 claims each) are the least frequent
