I have not encountered many box-and-whisker plots in my work. I have seen them in academic journals recently related to work. I do not feel like they are intuitive to the average reader. Now that I know what they are and what each component represents, I think it will be a bit easier to interpret data when I see them in this format moving forward.

I have seen a few histograms….but again I feel like bar charts & line graphs are charts I have commonly come in contact with and/or used to display data.

    1. I think bar graphs are best at showing ranking.
    2. Most frequent service category (Eastern): Curative Care Visit
    3. Least frequent service category (Eastern): Inpatient Medical & Inpatient Obstetrics
    4. Is it true for both Eastern & Northern? The most frequent YES (Curative Care Visit), the least frequent NO, In the North Speech Therapy was the least frequent

    1. I would think a line graph best show membership trends over the course of the year.
    2. I might change to a bar graph with Membership on the Y axis & Employee/Spouse/Child & months on the x axis with time broken out by quarters so there are only 4 timepoints.
    3. I would go back to a line graph if I am comparing total membership trends between Eastern & Western

Prior to our readings, I would have said yes this Figure does represent a dashboard – it’s data presented in a way that uses red/yellow/green to indicate areas that could be a concern (yellow) and those that already are a concern (red). But after our readings, I would now say no, it isn’t really a dashboard, but more the data/spreadsheet that should be used to populate the dashboard.
    – It’s not a high-level summary as it provides monthly breakdown of each KPI and the yearly total
    – It doesn’t provide any analysis or “conclusions,” – it’s just data presented and highlighted in different colors.
    – It doesn’t appear to be customized, although the article did discuss that hospital staff in the OB unit were involved in its creation/determining KPIs
    – Although the colors are “visual” and help to ID the areas of concern – a graphic of some sort would do a better job of visualizing the areas for improvement.
